The Neural Signals Amplifier with Low Power Consumption and Adjustable Gain and Bandwidth

Abstract
The use of neural signal recording systems in medical science in the diagnosis of various diseases is growing significantly. Neural signals, due to their nature, have a very low amplitude, so in order to perform any processing on these signals, they must first be amplified. Neural signals have a different frequency range from 1 Hz to 10 kHz, so it is necessary for the amplifier to have the ability to adjust the bandwidth to select the desired frequency range, and also because the amplitude of neural signals varies according to the type and location of the electrodes implanted in the brain, the amplifier must also have the ability to adjust the gain. In this article, a two-stage amplifier is presented that has the ability to adjust the gain and bandwidth in both stages and can amplify neural signals with low amplitudes and different frequency ranges with low power consumption. This amplifier has the ability to change the low cutoff frequency from 1.2 Hz to 27 Hz and the high cutoff frequency from 14.6 kHz to 12.6 kHz, and has a gain amplification range of 53 dB to 97 dB with a power consumption of about 10.9 microwatts. All the circuit simulation steps were performed in the Cadence software with 180 nanometer CMOS technology and a supply voltage of 1.8 V.
